DQ:1 What information does the cash flow statement provide that you cannot see in the other financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, owner’s equity)? What elements of the cash flow statement do you think are most important for company management to monitor and why? Is this different for investors? Answer: Cash flow is the movement of money into or out of a business. Cash flow is a measure of a company's financial health. Equals cash receipts minus cash payments over a given period of time or net profit plus amounts charged off for depreciation, depletion, and amortization. A revenue or expense stream changes a cash account over a given period. Cash comes into the business (cash inflows), mostly through sales of goods or services and flows out (cash outflows) to pay for costs such as raw materials, transport, labor, and power. The difference between the two is called the net cash flow. This is either positive or negative. A positive cash flow occurs when a business receives more money than it is spending. This enables it to pay its bills on time. A negative cash flow means the business is receiving less cash than it is spending. It may struggle to pay immediate bills and need to borrow money to cover the shortfall. Importance of Cash Flow:  Cash flows are necessary for the firm to survive and prosper.  Cash flows are also the fundamental source of intrinsic value for the firm or for any other type of financial investment.  Cash flow measures the liquidity of the business.  Cash flow can be used to evaluate the 'quality' of income generated by accrual accounting.  Cash flow is used to determine a project's rate of return or value Cash flow is very much important for the investors. If the cash flow of the company is stronger than it can be said that the company will do in the long run. If the Operating cash flow is stronger than the company will be survived in the long run. Within that section, click on the cash flow. Review the cash flow statement for Apple. How would you summarize Apple’s cash flow position and what does this statement tell you about where the ...
