Re:Topic 5 DQ 1
An individual that I believe exhibits authentic leadership is my Pastor. When I read about what authentic leadership in the text a few definitions stood out to me. It is defined as an interpersonal process, a relational process that is created by leaders and followers (Northouse, 16. Pg. 196) . My pastor has been pastoring or over 10 years. He has had the opportunity to lead many different people. While some have left the church there are regulars that stay and refuse to leave no matter what. These people have a genuine love and care for him. Another way to define authentic leadership was the intrapersonal perspective which defined it as a process that happens inside of a leader and attests to his originality (Northouse, 2016. Pg. 196).
When I was in high school one of the ministers in the church decided to leave and start his own church. The church split and he took half of the congregation with him. When this happened there was a shift in my church and a lot of things changed. With this sudden change my Pastor saw that he needed to do some restructuring. He implemented a new format for service, there were affirmation statements that he came up with that was recited every Sunday after announcements and more programming was put in place to develop relationship with the congregation. He started a workout program that took place upstairs with a full service gym and TV. This was to show that the church was not falling apart yet that had to happen in order to allow new things to come to fruition.
The role in authentic leadership is to be transparent and open with your situations. Whether it is an organization breaking up, a change in management or a threat in job security. Assuring the followers that you are ware and trying to be as proactive as possible will allow you to be one step ahead of the game and self-awareness, internalized moral perspective, balanced processing and relational transparency (Northouse, 2016. Pg. 196). Using life events to propel a purpose or sense of awareness is something that my Pastor did he showed the congregation that he cared for them and that in everything we do we must rust and seek God. Like the cancer survivor Terry Fox who lost his leg to bone cancer and attempted to travel across Canada from the Atlantic to the Pacific (Northouse, 2016. Pg. 198) to raise awareness. That took determination, humility and transparency to do so.

Re:Topic 5 DQ 1
An authentic leader is self aware, able to demonstrate relational transparency, able to show that he or she can objectively analyze all relevant data before coming to a decision and acts with guidance from internal moral values (Northouse, 2016). Mahatma Gandhi came to mind as an example of an authentic leader.
Self Awareness: Having an insight of his true self and what he believed, he taught his countrymen to do what they believed was right and act on this belief (Steger, 2000). He believed in India’s independence and was appalled by discrimination against Indian immigrants in South Africa. Gandhi wa...
