Case Assignments Instructions

You will complete 2 Case Assignments from Business Ethics: Ethical Decision Making and Cases. You will answer the questions at the end of the case in 4–5 pages (double spaced), not including the title or reference pages. The Case Assignments must be written in current APA format. In addition to the Ferrell textbook, utilize outside sources on the case questions. All sources must be of a scholarly nature; the sources must be either textbooks or journal articles from peer-reviewed journals. At least 5 references are required in addition to the course textbooks and the Bible. As this is a paper that requires research, it must be written in third person.

 

Case Assignment 1 can be found in the Ferrell textbook. The case is Case 1, “Monsanto Attempts to Balance Stakeholder Interests.” The paper must have at least 3 Level 1 headings that correspond to the following case points:

 

·       Efficacy of Monsanto’s Ethical Culture.

·       Costs and Benefits of Growing GMO Seed.

·       Management of Harm to Plants and Animals.

MONSANTO COMPANY Ethical Efficacy of the firm The code of ethics and culture is based on building strong relationships, conducting the firm with integrity, creating a better place for work and taking a role in the success of the company. Monsanto Company’s culture is not effective as it is written in its code of conduct above. There are different stakeholders that the firm’s conduct could affect in the long and therefore their interest should have been taken into a count. In 1970, Monsanto produced a chemical Agent Orange that contained Dioxin. However, there are risks that were overlooked by the company. The Dioxin have affected the users of the product. The firm therefore failed to consider the human threat that could be caused by these chemicals. Secondly, the company I the recent times, there are reports that have already emerged about the firm’s participation on the environmental pollution. However, the firm has been covering the toxic waste it has been releasing into creek in an Alabama town of Anniston. This has been a practice that has been going on for the last forty years. The waste did not only affected the people’s lives but also affected the ecology such as the environment and the fish. If the ethical culture of the firm was effective, then such issues could not be arising. The management of the company has been aware of the pollution in the environment since 1960 but it opted not to stop the production. Even though the firm paid the victims of the pollution, the people could not be paid back their health. Finally, the ethical culture of the firm also failed terribly in the sense that, the top manager propagated bribe to the top official in the Indonesian environment ministry in order to disguise the information of the opposition that the firm is facing from the farmers.
