Part 1: Data Collection Tools
Data in health care is very important for safety and quality in health care delivery and patient education must be paramount to successful data collection. Gathering the accurate information from patients assists in ensuring he or she receives quality health care services. Inaccurate information could have the possibility of resulting in medical errors. It is vital that patient education be at the top of every healthcare employees mind. Allowing patients to be a part of their healthcare when they are home is important to the healing process. Educating patients is essential to the successful healing process in and out of the hospital. Patient education involves a plethora of improvement monitoring plans all geared to the success of quality patient care.
Data is utilized to monitor improvements for quality patient care. “When assessing the accuracy, try to determine whether the information is supported by evidence from scientific studies, other data or expert opinion. The most reliable evidence comes from randomized controlled studies. However, other types of studies or the opinions of respected authorities in the field also can lend validity to the information” (Evaluating Health Information, 2015). Monitoring data and the improvements that are shown is a significant way to set up quality healthcare goals for achievements that can be met.
Data collection tools that can be used to collect performance information are important for the future of the company. “Surveys, interviews, focus groups, literature reviews, and record analysis (e.g. chart audits) are just a few examples of data collection methods” (Managing Data for Performance Improvement, 2015, pg. 1). Other forms of data improvement that can be utilized are the guides from a matrix, team structure, documents, grids, and goals.
